Your prom night game plan will lead to true romance, new romance or no romance.
You know what you’re wearing, and you know when to get there. You even know how you’re going to arrive -- in style, of course. But do you know where the relationship with your prom date is headed? The answer can mean the difference between a good time and a great time, and the stage of your relationship should dictate how you approach your special night. To start out on the right foot, identify your situation and follow your prom night game plan:
True Romance! You’re in a serious relationship with your prom date.
The Plan: Relax; this is the person you want to be with. There’s no reason to be
nervous or worry about how the evening will go. If you have fun together in jeans
and sandals, you’ll have a blast in a dress and tuxedo. It’s a big night, but you’re still
the same couple. So enjoy it, and make sure you smile for the prom photos!
New Romance! You’ve just started dating, but the prom is a serious event. Is it too much too soon?
The Plan: Don’t put any unnecessary pressure on yourself or the relationship.
Taking everything too seriously is a good way to cool off a new romance. Even
though prom is a meaningful event, keep things light and fun. Just like your normal
dates. But stay open-minded enough to seize a magical moment-- if and when it
appears. The right approach just might take your relationship to the next level.
No Romance! You’re going with a friend whom you like, but it’s not a romantic thing.
The Plan: A friend is someone you enjoy spending time with, and going to the
prom together should be no different. This should be a stress-free evening with a
friend, so don’t put any extra pressure on yourself or your date. Even if you’re not
romantically involved, you can have a special and memorable evening together. And
keep in mind that great relationships can begin on prom night too. Keep an open
mind, and you might be surprised how much fun you have. It might turn into more
than either of you expected.
