Prom Style

Find the perfect dress. Choose the perfect hairstyle. Get the prom date that everyone else wants. Prom is a time of careful decisions with little room for error. Everything has to be just right. Here’s a tip for you: Perfection is impossible to attain. Individuality should be the goal when you look at your prom style for this year. That girl in the magazine may look great in that prom dress with that hairstyle but she’s five feet tall and weighs eighty pounds. Do you think that look will suit you the same way it fits her?

The prom dress or tuxedo you choose is the biggest element in the prom style equation, but it needs to be something that matches you and not someone else. Each prom dress has an individual style to it and that style, your prom style, needs to match both your looks and your personality. It’s all about self-confidence on prom night and squeezing into that revealing gown that was made for someone three sizes smaller than you will not make you feel comfortable.

The same can be said for the guys. If you’re someone who doesn’t like attention, don’t go out and rent a bright green tuxedo. Wear something that you feel comfortable in. The conservative black and white is fine if you just want to blend in. If you’re a bright green guy, then go for it. Your prom style should say something about who you are.

The other thing is the hair. If you like it up, wear it up. If you have long hair and want to show it off, wear it down. There are no set rules that say you have to get a prom updo to go to prom. When you walk through that door you want your prom style to make a statement. “This is who I am and I like it.” That inner glow will shine through and everyone will be impressed if you are wearing the dress, tux, shoes, and hairstyle that make you feel as good on the inside as you look on the outside.

So what are the latest tips to make sure your prom style is the right one? Be yourself. Your individuality is your style. No one can fault you for that. There’s always a lot of pressure in high school to conform to someone else’s standards. Prom is your opportunity to put your own on display for all to see. That’s what prom style is.
