Prom Music

The prom venue is set, the number of students has been determined, and the theme has been decided on. The hall is decorated and the menu is finalized. What’s left? The most important piece is the DJ. Who is spinning the tunes on prom night? Prom music can make or break the evening. If the DJ doesn’t play the right songs, the kids will want to leave early. You want to make sure that you choose the person who will provide your prom music very carefully.

The first thing you need to do is find out what everyone likes. Put out a request list around the school while you’re still in the planning process and use it to help you choose a DJ. This is probably the best way to make sure that the prom music will be satisfactory to the entire student body. Someone with experience will be able to take that list and put together sets of songs that will keep everyone’s feet moving all night long.

Another idea to get the right prom music is to find out what radio station students listen to and relay that to the DJ. Good DJ’s will know what’s on the playlist and set up their music accordingly. Most also have club mixes that are not heard on the radio which are perfect for an event like a prom. You’ll want to have a good mix to keep everyone involved so the experience of the person or company playing the prom music is an important factor.

Check references. Call other schools and find out who they use. Go on line and see if there are any DJ’s in your area that specialize in proms. And don’t be afraid to shop around. Never take the first price that is offered. Use it as a bargaining chip when you contact other companies. All DJ’s will bid high on the first contact. Even if you like them, call a few others and then see if they’ll beat the price. Your prom music is important and they know it but they’re not the only ones out there who can provide it.
